A Public Adjuster (PA) represents the property owner when they have a claim. Often a property owner does not understand the coverages they have under a policy nor what can and cannot be paid by the insurance company. The PA scopes the loss and creates an estimate of the damages. They then compare this with the Independent or Company Adjuster representing the insurance company to come to a fair conclusion as to what can and should be paid according to the policy. The PA is paid a percentage of the claim.
Many states allow an individual to hold both a PA and an Independent Adjusters license although most adjusters choose to work either for the public or for the companies. Either way the skill sets needed by both are the same.
